While ye have light

Pendant que vous avez la lumière
8 x 10
Acrylic on canvas
2006

Then Jesus said unto them: Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have light, lest darkness come upon you; for he who walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light.
These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.

John 12 : 35, 36

Cover illustration for a novel titled Léa Fallon ou les chrétiens de l'ère post-chrétienne. It tells the story of a disabused intellectual who desperately seeks truth and peace but cannot find it in the realm of man's limited intelligence. She earnestly seeks God until he grants her a vision in which he reveals himself to her as a light amidst the dark reality of perdition.

This painting represents the main character Léa Fallon, but some might find a certain resemblance with Canadian Gaelic artist Mary Jane Lamond . She was effectively the main inspiration behind this character and I used images of her to make the painting. She has granted her permission for both novel and illustration.

Absolutely gorgeous. I love the detailing and lighting. Excellent form and superb balance in the composition. The face is quite exquisite. Great background.

The slight glow that surrounds the figure is brilliant.. It subtly adds so much the the painting. The expression you've captured here is also amazing. It makes it difficult to look away. It isn't often that I've seen eyes in a painting so piercing and powerful when they are rendered to look slightly away from the viewer. Good luck with the novel.

Thank you ! :thanks: If you saw the subject's eyes, you would also find it difficult to look away. I suppose I tried to capture the expression of someone who "sees the light" with everything it involves. Glad it worked out !

Aha! I knew that was Mary Jane Lamond! You have her permission -- impressive. I'd die just to talk to her.
:iconketsialessard:
You would certainly die. :D
Man, does she ever have an impressive presence.
