Those who mourn
Les Affligés 8" x 10" Acrylic on canvas 2007 Part of The Beatitudes series Model: Laurence Labonté Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted. (Matthew 5:4) The idea of "those who mourn" would be a reference to the sadness brought about by the weight of sin leading to repentance. Repentance over one's own sin, but also that of the world in general. Those who weep over the corruption of the world and look forward to purification and restoration will be comforted when God establishes his kingdom and wipes away all tears form their eyes (Revelation 21: 4). The keyhole concept refers to God witnessing our introspection and grief, and looking forward to comfort us: Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and sup with him, and he with me. (Revelation 3:20) It is often during difficult times that we hear Jesus knocking and calling the loudest. |

Beautiful work, my dear!

English does not borrow from other languages. English follows other languages into dark alleys, knocks them over, and rifles through their pockets for loose vocabulary.
Michelangelo... kind of true too.
