Laurence with church owl
Laurence et l'effraie des clochers 8" x 10" Acrylic on canvas 2008 This is a portrait of my friend and colleague Laurence Labonté who was also featured on the Beatitudes series. The church owl (Tyto alba), more commonly known as "barn owl," is often found nesting in old barns and church belfries. The twin steeples are inspired by La Visitation Catholic church in Montréal, Québec. Strangely enough, the association between Laurence and the owl proved to be more significative than I had initially thought. I recently read David Keirseys work about character and temperaments and tried to identify Laurence's since she is quite enigmatic. I concluded she is a rational mind (intuitive thinking type). Keirsey associates each temperament with a symbolic animal, and turns out he associates the rational temperament with the owl. I read about this after finishing this painting. |

She's not really staring at the bird if you look at the light in her eyes... She's sort of looking at something in her head. The bird is staring at her though...
Thanks for the favourite, I really like your beard !

English does not borrow from other languages. English follows other languages into dark alleys, knocks them over, and rifles through their pockets for loose vocabulary.
How is your spiritual search going ?
